Volunteer Opportunities

Nutrition Support Volunteers

Here's some "food for thought".  The Dorothy Ley Hospice is looking for volunteers to add that extra touch in creating "a home-like environment."  Nutrition Support Volunteers help the Residential Care Team provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for the Residents.  You don't need to be a great cook to volunteer in this capacity.  However, if you are, we welcome your gifts.  If you are comfortable in a kitchen preparing, heating, portioning and plating pre-prepared meals, we could use your help on one of the following daily shifts: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon; 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  We need help every day of the week.

Hospitality

There are 42 available shifts on the Hospitality Team plus on-call volunteers.  Hospitality is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.  The Hospitality role is pivotal in ensuring the successful and smooth operation of the Centre and in creating a positive experience for our guests.  Hospitality Volunteers are the "communication portal" for the Centre by answering the telephone and greeting people as they enter the Centre. Their role helps create a warm and friendly first impression.  Hospitality Volunteers also provide support in the kitchen and offer light administrative support to Hospice staff and other volunteers.  We are looking for volunteers who can contribute four hours per week (on a week day) or a minimum of four hours per month on weekend shifts.  We also need volunteers who are available on an on-call basis.

In-home Support Volunteer

Hospice is all about "community serving community." In-home Support Volunteers represent a warm and caring community offering a friendly visitor, respite, practical support and even a listening ear to an individual living with the challenges of a life-limiting illness.  They offer care to the individual and his/her support network (including family and friends) in the home.  Volunteers in this role complete a highly-regarded 36-hour training program which results in a certificate of completion.  We are looking for volunteers who can contribute their time to make visits of four hours per week (on average) while on an assignment.

Massage Therapists Wanted

If you are looking for a rewarding experience, join the RMT Volunter Chain at The Dorothy Ley Hospice.
